Priya Lobo, CEO, Ormax Consultants Pvt. Ltd, shares her tribute and ode to Sandeep Saxena
Sandeep and my path crossed at the MRSI office at Bandra, when I told him I wanted to contribute to the MR fraternity in some way! Without batting an eyelid, he said “what is that you want to do?” “Join the MC”. Believe it or not, there was no looking back!
He had one mission and purpose to make the community more inclusive, get more young people to join in and celebrate the profession. And he encouraged you to do the things you liked and cherished. This really helped me and so many others to take up initiatives and build them ground up! Be it the MRSI logo design, seminars, the community program. We knew he had our back!
The light-hearted banter, camaraderie, the cool calmness in most situations, engaging conversations, fish thali lunch at Highway Gomantak attracted me to Sandeep. I would even land up calling him for all sorts of things - he was able to see things objectively.
I didn’t know he was a farmer - when suddenly I landed up at the MRSI office and he gave me flowers. I said, ‘Wow’.
I didn’t know he loved making wine. I was happy to get his wine to taste.
I didn’t know he loved carpentry - he made me a nice stand for mobile online conversations.
I didn’t know he loved creating things - he called me for Dussehra, and they had made the Ravan effigy and dinner to meet his family.
Sandeep was an explorer and enthusiast for life!
He inspired and taught me that life is wonderful, and one has to enjoy every moment of it.
Most importantly, I learnt what it meant to love, care and keep aside the egos if we have to contribute and give wholeheartedly.
You will be missed by us all.
MRSI also pays tribute to Sandeep, who was its first Director General and was holding that office till the pre-covid days
He was not only instrumental in holding the MRSI Conferences successfully but also in increasing their reach and popularity. He was also behind some of the key initiatives started by MRSI like the new SEC, Field Training & Certification Programme, the Golden Key Awards and others.
Sandeep was a great researcher and a man with many varied interests including travelling, trekking, long distance driving, carpentry and woodwork.
Sandeep is survived by his wife Bhavna and son Raghu and daughter Gauri. MRSI conferred his wife Bhavna with a special tribute for his tremendous contributions to the MR industry.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.
